The hot hatch segment offers one of the best shows in the industry, as the last few years have seen an ultra-accelerated evolution of the “go-fast” hatches.

If you look at the specs of the vehicles that belong to this segment, you’ll discover power ratings that were previously only available for proper sports cars. And this is only half the story. Fortunately, there is also a strong competition within the segment, with multiple automotive producers fighting to offer the hottest hatch on the market. One of the vehicles that is fighting for this title is the Volkswagen Golf R, the iconic GTI’s big brother, if you like.

The vehicle’s 2.0 liter, four-cylinder turbocharged engine delivers 270 hp and a maximum torque of 350 Nm when the car leaves the Volkswagen factory, offering plenty of grunt for the aforementioned fight.

However, it seems that there are some who like to place the Golf R in the same sentence with the word “underpowered”. Of course, we are talking about tuning companies. The latest modification kit for the Golf R comes from MR Car Design, which has focused on improving the vehicle’s performance.

Using the “MR6R” name, the tuning pack comes with an ECU remap, modified intercooler, custom downpipe, as well as a high-performance exhaust system.

Now, the car’s TSI engine allows the driver to play with 330 hp and 470 Nm of torque. The tuner has not released the new performance figures of the vehicle. To handle the extra power, the Golf R has been fitted with a set of H&R springs, which bring it closer to the road, and with 19-inch lightweight alloy rims that use 235/35 tires.
