Mr Brainwash Throws Random Paint on a Mercedes GLA: Art?

Paris-born and Los Angeles-based self-proclaimed filmmaker and street artist Thierry Guetta, best known as Mr Brainwash, recently posted an image of a Mercedes GLA-Series covered in paint. Considering the mad approach the artist usually uses, we’re wondering if this is his newest artwork or it’s just random paint throwing.

You might have not heard about this fellow, but we’re pretty sure you like at least one of famous street artist Banksy’s work. How are the two related? Well, through the Exit Through the Gift Shop movie-documentary. Directed by the famous UK-based graffiti artist, the movie tells the story of Thierry Guetta, a proprietor of a clothing street artist through the 2000s who “evolved” into an artist in his own right. Mr Brainwash's work is also greatly associated with Banksy's work.

Point is, the French artist somehow got famous in the U.S. and is know considered as one of the cool alternative painters. Guetta employs famous artistic and historic images, many of which are copyrighted, altering them in sometimes slight, sometimes significant ways. For some reason, his work sold for five-figure sums at his self-financed debut exhibit Life is Beautiful. The exhibit was held in Los Angeles, California, on June 18, 2008, and was a popular and critical. In 2009, Madonna paid Guetta to design the cover art for her Celebration album.

Artist or not, could anybody explain why throwing paint in a random assault of a luxury compact crossover worth about $40,000 is suddenly considered art?
