Movistar Becomes Yamaha MotoGP Title Sponsor, in Trouble Placing Logo on Bikes

As it was rumored at the end of 2013, Spanish communications giant Movistar is currently negotiating for becoming a title sponsor for Yamaha Racing Team in the MotoGP. But the deal is yet to be finalized with finding a suitable spot on Lorenzo and Rossi's bikes... because of Monster Energy Drinks.

As Solomoto informs, the deal between Yamaha and Movistar is a bit stuck, because Monster refuses to move its logo on the bodywork of the YZR-M1 machines, invoking contractual clauses.

The situation is apparently quite nasty, as the same source mentions Yamaha officials traveling to the US and trying to talk Monster out of their stubborn position, with no reports of having succeeded so far.

Problem is that when Monster inked the deal with Yamaha, a deal presumed to be around the €2.5 mil ($) mark, the MotoGP paddocks were not exactly filled with generous sponsors. What could now be considered a small amount of money was then a most welcome financing.

Still, Movistar is looking for the best exposure on the M1 machines and can (and would) top Monster's offer. Unfortunately the real estate on the bikes remains the same as it was at Valencia, when it all begun.

Things are going to be interesting in case the energy drinks company is not accepting a settlement in this matter, to say the least.
