Motorist Fined Twice by Same Policeman 12,000 Miles Apart

Getting pulled over by the police can’t possibly be a pleasant experience for anyone. Add to that the deja-vu sensation that a New Zealand driver must have felt when he was fined by the same policemen as two years before in England, and you get that paranoiac sensation that the police is out to get you.

An unnamed man was ticketed for speeding twice, once in England and then two years later in New Zealand. The odd thing was that the same police officer issued both citations! Andy Flitton was an officer with the London Metropolitan Police when the first citations was issued. He then emigrated to New Zealand, 12,000 miles (19,300) away.

According to the British publication The Daily Mail, Constable Flitton said that as he wrote out the ticket on a road near Christchurch in New Zealand, the driver asked if he had worked in London and if he had operated a laser gun on the A5, to which he said he did. “I thought it was you,” said the man, who has not been named. “You gave me my last speeding ticket there two years ago.” Flitton explained that the man told him he had moved to New Zealand just two weeks before his latest booking.


"We must have some sort of connection. He only ever broke the law twice and both times I was the one to give him a ticket ... it just shows what a small world it really is," he said during the interview. Just goes to show, you can’t escape the long arm of the law, not even half a world away.
