Motorcyclist Slides On First Ride on Yamaha V Star 650

We’ve all been there. A bit panicked, clumsy and tensed, but at the end of the day we felt proud after taking our first ride on two wheels. Some, like this guy in the video, might also remember soreness after his first ride.

You know how they say, “every cloud has a silver lining” and this guy’s spill on his first ride will surely serve him well in the future, reminding that all braking should be done before starting to turn.

According to the video description, the slide happened a few hours after riding the cruiser for the first time on the streets. The whole thing happened when he suddenly decided to turn right into a parking lot.

As he started leaning into the turn, he got the idea he’s not going to make it so he did what every inexperienced rider would do - panicked and grabbed a handful of front brake.

The 2008 Yamaha V Star 650 here doesn’t come with ABS (Anti-lock Braking System), so the front wheel instantly locked mid-turn and threw the rider into a textbook low-side. Having a closer look, those new tires might be part of the reason he crashed too. We all know how slippery they are until broken in.

Can’t really tell if the rider here went through it, but the video is another reason you should take riding school seriously. Riding a motorcycle is way different than driving a car, and small mistakes like braking hard into corners are far worse than doing the same in a three- or four-wheeled vehicle.

New law in Europe forces all manufacturers to fit standard ABS onto new bikes to avoid wheel lock in emergency scenarios. However, not all riders can afford a new motorcycle, so this kind of scenario will continue to surprise the inexperienced ones.

Editor's note: Also, is it me, or that cruiser has the idle set way to high? Just listen to it when the rider stops at the intersection.
