MotoGP Regulations Update, Spec Software from 2016, More Chaos

With only 2 days remaining before the official start of the 2014 MotoGP season, the Grand Prix Commission announces even more changes to the current regulation, but it’s hard to see how the new rules will help clearing out the mess.
One of the most important changes is that the Magneti Marelli ECU software will become mandatory from the 2016 season, and all the current and prospective teams MUST collaborate and assist with the design of the final version which will be run by all the bikes on the grid.

The second important change refers to the Manufacturers entering with a factory option with no dry victories in the previous year, or a new Manufacturer entering the championship, read Ducati and Suzuki, respectively. These two categories are entitled to all the goodies of the Open class: 12 engines per season, unlimited development and testing, 24 liters of fuel per race and the same tire allocation, meaning the Softer option.

This “concession” is valid prior to the start of the 2016 season, about which nobody knows anything, by the way, and judging by the way things go now… 2016 seems a far distant future. But… in case a rider or combination of riders achieve a dry win, 2 second places or 3 podium placements, the fuel allocation is dropped to 22 liters.

Finally, 3 race wins is the shortest way to no longer being allowed to use the Softer tire option normally available for Open entries. And both restrictions will be enforced through the remainder of the 2014 season AND the 2015 one. On how could all this this affect the quality of the MotoGP races, in tomorrow’s editorial. I wonder what's going on at the HRC headquarters now...
