2016 marks the 68th edition of the MotoGP World Championship and there are a lot of things we can expect this year. Some records are waiting to be broken, with some of the riders eager to have their names written down once more in the history books of the motorcycle Grand Prix racing.
For starters, we'll tell you that Spain holds the first place when it comes to the number of MotoGP riders, and no less than nine guys on the grid have Spanish passports. Next come the four Italians and the three Brits, while Germany, San Marino, Australia, Ireland, Colombia and France have at least one rider who will make the start in the 2016 championship.
The youngest MotoGP pilot is Jack Miller, 21, while the oldest is Valentino Rossi, 37. Should Rossi win one more race in 2016, he would surpass Phil Read and become the ninth oldest rider to win a GP race.
However, it is hard to believe that Rossi will be part of the championship for seven more years, so that he could beat Fergus Anderson and his record. Anderson was 44 years and 237 days old when he won his last race in 1953.
Dani Pedrosa is the Spanish rider with the most podiums, but his 100-podium record is hunted down by Jorge Lorenzo, with 97 podiums. As for the absolute number of podiums, Lorenzo has 135 across all classes, while Angel Nieto has 139. With 18 rounds in 2016, Pedrosa can rest somewhat assured with his amazing 141 podiums to date.
2016 also welcomes back Austria to the calendar, with the August 14 round at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg. Regarding winning at certain circuits, Rossi has one more chance this year to win at Austin and Aragon, two of the venues where he missed the podium.
Marc Marquez can cross Motegi off his list, while Lorenzo has to add Austin, Sachsenring, Sepang and Termas de Rio Hondo (Argentina) to his list of victories.
Spain, as a nation, has the most victories in the premier class, 101, with Italy currently at 91. As for the full podiums, the US dominates, with a record of 24 times when the first three riders were Americans. The Brits have only 23 and have at last statistical chances to match the Americans, thanks to Cal Crutchlow, Bradley Smith and Scott Redding.
Cue the rest of the enmities and rivalries on the grid, add some pride and fans that are crazier than ever, and get ready for a whopping 2016 MotoGP season.

Constructors are also battling, but Honda's lead is huge
Honda has a massive 103 MotoGP victories, whereas Yamaha has only 65. Suzuki's last win was obtained by Chris Vermuelen in France, back in 2007, while the last round victory for Ducati was in Australia, in 2010.
