It appears like the MSMA (Motorcycle Sports Manufacturers' Association) has finally reached an agreement with the FIM and Dorna concerning the future of the software which will be used by all the teams as of the beginning of 2016. The Factory options are allowed to keep on developing their own software until the Assen round in 2015, the meeting in Austin concluded.
Beyond this moment, no modifications are any longer allowed through the end of the 2015 season, and all the Factory entries (including Suzuki, as well) will have to race with the software version they bring for the Dutch GP. Ducati opposed strongly, but eventually agreed with the date of the Dutch Grand Prix.
The four Factory entries will then have to grant inspectors access to their proprietary to verify the date of the last modification. Now, where do these inspectors come from, it’s still unknown, but we can expect that the FIM and Dorna create a dedicated commission for the job.
Once the development of the proprietary software is stopped, all the teams must contribute to creating the unified software which will run on the Magneti Marelli ECUs, which are already mandatory. It’s still a mystery how will the new software be tested and when… Or Dorna will just say everybody should attend the next race with the spec software, accept the potentially disastrous results and then find ways to make it better?
