MotoGP Confirms Valencia until 2016

In a time when most circuits are making great efforts to continue their plans in several motor racing series worldwide, the people of Valencia can stay assured that at least the MotoGP caravan will keep on coming to the Circuit de la Comunitat Valenciana Ricardo Tormo for the upcoming 7 years.

Valentino Rossi & Co will tackle the last round of the 2009 season in Valencia over the weekend, and the series' promoter Dorna decided to seize the moment and secure the Spanish venue for the long term. In a meeting before the season finale, Dorna's Carmelo Ezpeleta and Valencia Minister for Culture and Sports Trini Miró confirmed that the venue will stay in the MotoGP until 2016.

Firstly I would like to thank Mr. Ezpeleta and Mr. Martínez (team owner in the MotoGP) for helping Valencia to host one of the greatest sporting events in the world. Holding MotoGP races in the Comunitat Valenciana helps us to generate finances and boosts employment, also allowing us to promote our image around the world,” said the President of the Generalitat Valenciana, Gerardo Camps.

This contract renewal and a Valencian team presence next year in all three GP categories, with Aspar, will help the Comunitat Valenciana to prosper further and to cement our event as a key date in MotoGP,” added Camps.

The announcement comes to celebrate a decade of MotoGP action on the Ricardo Tormo circuit, as the Spanish track has been an active part of the series since 1999.

It is a pleasure for Dorna to extend the agreement that we have had with Valencia since 1999 for them to host MotoGP races. Valencia is already a 'classic' for the World Championship, and on several occasions it has been awarded as the best GP of the season,” concluded Ezpeleta.
