Motobylot E-Scrambler Is So Expensive It’s Almost Funny

Well, we have to be blunt on this one: €12,000 ($13,730) for an electric scrambler with rather modest performance specs is a bit out of line. Of course we’re talking about a handmade Italian bike and not a run-off-the-mill Chinese knock-off, but honestly, this money can get anyone a really trick e-machine, or an even nicer gas-powered bike, both new. If we cross into the second-hand territory, things are becoming even better.

Still, if you feel like you can spend this sum and want to stand from the crowd, buying a Brammo, who by the way has been bought by Polaris, is not going to be enough. Of course, a Brammo will have a better range, better top speed and more modern looks, but will lack the individualism of the Motobylot. Again, it looks like this is a very expensive resource…

Modest tech specs to match a high price? Interesting approach!

For such money, we were kind of expecting a lot of bike. The Motobylot E-Scrambler however fails to impress us when it comes to specifications. A speed ranging between 50 and 80 km/h (30-50 mph) and a full battery charge being good for 30 to 150 minutes is not exactly top-drawer by any motorcycle standards.

The bike comes with Marzocchi forks and a Sachs rear shock but they cannot justify the price. Power and torque figures are nothing to write home about, either, with a peak of 11.4 horsies and 31.5 Nm (23.3 lb-ft). Customers can opt for either belt or chain final drive. The only things which caught our attention have been the 95 kg (209 lb) weight which should make this bike really easy to flip on rough ground and the 2-hour recharging time, even though this is related to the modes juice pack.

As for the design, the Motobylot E-Scrambler is a matter of take it or leave it. The amalgamated styling was just not our thing so we’ll leave it for now.
