Moto Guzzi Rider Clocked at 383 MPH

An Italian rider had just been left without his driving license after local speed cameras clocked him riding at an impossible 383 mph (616 km/h). Motorcycles can go fast, but not that fast. In fact, a Moto Guzzi bike like the one the rider in question was riding at the moment, has a top speed of about 115 mph (185 km/h).

"If I could go that fast I'd enter my bike in the MotoGP world championships. Valentino Rossi would not stand a chance. What did they think they were clocking - a jet fighter?" said Paul Turina, the rider. "If the court rules the fine will stand then I'm going to send it to the Guinness Book of Records - after all if the court says its true then I should get the credit for this remarkable feat," the biker added.

The rider, Paul Turina, is of course appealing against the charge, while also disputing the 200 euros fine Police have issued.

"I was told that the check was carried out properly, because in the picture you see that I was going to 87km/h (54 mph)," Turina told the Giornale di Merate newspaper. "It was probably a simple clerical error by the agent. In the end the blame for the fine was passed to me, which cost me less than five points on my license and more than 200 euros (US $296)."

Italian Police say the camera unit is not faulty and they suspect a clerical error. The appeal court is yet to decide on the case.

"I also brought it to the dealer who sold me the bike,"
said the 26-year-old Italian biker. "They made a photocopy and hung it on the wall.”
