A 27-year-old woman from Charlotte, North Carolina, went out to get a job and, because she had no one to mind her 3 kids, decided to leave them inside her locked and hot car in the parking lot of an office building.
According to WSOCTV, on the day this incident happened, temperatures soared into the 90s and, as experts explain time and time again, this kind of weather could mean a child inside a hot car would be injured in as little as 15 minutes. Eyewitnesses tell the media outlet that this mother was gone for at least 30 minutes by the time first responders arrived at the scene and didn’t check on them once.

A passer-by noticed the children inside the car and thought they looked “lethargic,” so they immediately called 911. Meanwhile, a parking attendant for the office building went looking for the mom. Police removed the kids from the vehicle and placed them into an ambulance, and the good news is that they weren’t hurt.

The kids, aged 5 months, 2 years and 4 years, were returned to the mother after the incident. She was cited for neglect: it turns out that she was inside the office building to apply for a job.

“I just think it was a bad situation,” one of the eyewitnesses says for the same media outlet. “It was just irresponsible, totally, on her part. Saw paramedics taking the babies into the ambulance. Just that alone was upsetting.”

Other eyewitnesses admit that they were relieved that the kids weren’t hurt and that the mother was cited for her negligence, because it might deter her to do it again. They can’t understand how a mom would put her children in danger like this, especially since any potential employer would have understood if she’d brought them inside with her for the job interview.
