Mosley Argues Ferrari Losing Title Is Better for the FIA

Former FIA (International Automobile Federation) president Max Mosley believes the world of Formula One could live very well with the idea that Ferrari and Fernando Alonso have lost the opportunity to become world champions at the end of the 2010 campaign. And now, let us (better said, the 70-year old Brit) explain...

According to Mosley, Alonso's potential title in 2010 would have brought to the table once again the discussion centered around team orders. Needless to remind you that the Spaniard benefited from team orders during the German Grand Prix, which saw first placed Felipe Massa offer his teammate the leading position in the race on a silver platter, with a few laps to go.

Had Alonso become world champion “it would have given the world another unpleasant discussion about team orders,” argued Mosley in a recent interview with German newspaper Die Welt.

So thank God we are instead talking about the strategy mistake of the last race and not whether Ferrari really deserved the title. That is one less problem for Formula One,” added the former boss of the FIA, whose confrontational tendencies against Ferrari have become obvious since the 2009 “political war” between the FIA and the Formula One Teams Association (FOTA), then headed by Ferrari's Luca di Montezemolo.

Despite his comments however, Mosley also had some nice things to say about the Maranello based team. Shocking, we know...

Ferrari did an excellent job from the middle of the season to the end. They were almost out of the hunt and they managed to bring themselves back,” concluded Mosley his references towards the Prancing Horse.
