Mosley: All Teams Must Decide on 2010 Regulations

Yes, they were declared, unofficially, the winners in the FIA – FOTA war recently. And yes, they will get to have the most decisive saying in setting the technical regulations for the 2010 Formula One Championship. But the F1 teams must all come together if they want their technical package for next year to be approved by the FIA.

Max Mosley made it very clear that, regardless of the suspensions handed by the FOTA in recent weeks – to Williams and Force India teams – and the newly entrants for 2010, all13 teams must be consulted and give their full support for next year's regulations. Otherwise, the ruling body will not give their go-ahead for the implementation of those rules next year. Ergo, probably another political crisis, although highly unlikely.

“As you are aware, Article 66 of the International Sporting Code states that no change can be made to the published regulations without the agreement of all confirmed entrants. As a result, changes to the 2010 regulations require your agreement and consent,” said the letter from Mosley to the team, whose copy was made public by the British magazine Autosport.

“I would therefore ask you engage as a matter of urgency with the FOTA teams to seek agreement and to formalise the above principals into suitable contracts and propose a draft set of FIA regulations that all teams are satisfied with.”

“Should significant problems arise, I shall be glad to involve the FIA Senate, but I hope this will not be necessary. Once these arrangements have been finalized to your satisfaction, you will need to notify the FIA so that the regulations can be formally amended,” added the document.

As reported by Autoevolution yesterday, all 13 teams are expected to meet later today (Wednesday) to begin talks about the next year regulations, including Williams, Force India, US F1, Campos Grand Prix and Manor Grand Prix.
