Morgan’s 2009 Sales Reach Record Value

English niche car company Morgan has set a production record in 2009, defying the international financial crisis. The carmaker’s plant in Malvern was expected to have an annual output of 690 units, far greater than its average 400/year value, as reported by Autocar UK.

This growth has been mainly sustained by the increasing demand in Continental Europe, with particularly increases in France and Germany. The UK market on the other hand has maintained its average annual sales figure of 280 cars in 2009.

“We are absolutely delighted by the number of cars that we have built and sold in such a tough year,” a company spokesman said.

The British company predicts a similar trend for the current year. Thanks to its new product, the Aero SuperSports, a topless version of the Aeromax, production in 2010 will rise up to 750 units, as the same source states.

Morgan has had serious problems with importing cars to the U.S. market in the past. From 1974 to 1992 the cars imported here had to be converted to run on propane to pass emission regulations and therefore be available on the market. In 2005, the Aero 8 model was banned from this market until 2008 due to safety issues (by American legislation standards). The company has ensured that the Super Sports will not encounter such difficulties, designing the vehicle with U.S. specifications in mind.

To give you an idea of how Morgan sales are carried out, we’ll just tell you that in order to be able to buy a 140,000 Euro (plus tax) Aero SuperSports, one must first place a 28,000 Euro deposit in the company’s bank account.
