Morgan EV3 Is "the Most Fun You Can Have on Three Wheels"

Morgan products have always been about fun and driving pleasure, but none of them more so than the fantastic 3 Wheeler - the car that greets you with an exposed motorcycle V-Twin engine stuck on its front end.

There’s no other way around it: the 3 Wheeler is a toy, and since all toys are becoming electric-powered these days, the Morgan vehicle caught halfway between a car and a motorcycle could not escape the trend.

Or maybe it could, but it would have been a shame. Luckily, the guys at Potenza Spots Cars were on the lookout and grabbed one of these three-wheeled bizarre things for a quick EV conversion.

Whether it was quick or not, that’s debatable, since these guys take what they do extremely seriously. The car is now in the final testing phase, and as you can see in the clip below shot for the British online show Fully Charged (you might remember them from that Oslo to London road trip that cost only five euros), it seems ready to go.

The Morgan EV3 uses a single electric motor, but Potenza Sports Cars representative John Roberts said they could employ a second if that turned out to be necessary. As things are standing right now, he says they can get the same amount of power out of a single power unit, so the extra weight would render it useless.

He also talks about the car’s battery pack which is a 9-kWh unit, yet Roberts insists they can provide an 18-kWh pack that would take up the exact same space. The current range for the 9-kWh version is 150 miles (240 km) and a full recharge takes only four hours. Those are some pretty good numbers for a car that's expected to make it into limited production next year.

The car’s makers say that while the EV3 is a sports car, it’s not designed to go extremely fast. They aimed for a less than 10 second 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) sprint time and a top speed of over 80 mph (130 km/h), which may sound underwhelming, but these figures feel completely different in a 1,100 lbs (500 kg) vehicle described as “civilized motorcycling.” Yeah, we figured some bikers might be offended by that, but don’t write your letters here - it’s John Roberts who said it.
