Europe’s taxi drivers went on strike last month with the Uber app stealing their jobs by allowing people to pull up their smartphones, go online and find a nearby driver to give them a ride for less cash. Well, expect more protests soon, as some of the firm’s prices have dropped bellow what NYC taxies offer.
As part of a limited time offer, UberX service, the cheapest transportation method from the Uber app involving hybrid vehicles, has dropped fares by about 2$ under what a normal New York cab will ask.

The company hasn’t said how much the “limited” offer will run, since it will be fueled by higher demand due to the lower fares. For example, a ride from Grand Central to Financial District will cost you $24 with a regular cab and $22 with the UberX, while also benefiting from a polite driver and a new, clean and comfortable ride.

Moreover, Uber recently announced it will cut down prices in the Bay Area too, with cities including San Hose, Oakland and San Francisco to benefit from 25 percent lower prices.

Will American taxi drivers start up a huge strike too? Judging that the price of taxi medallions have increased in some areas in recent years, it might happen. But this might just help Uber in its cause. The company’s subscriptions have ski-rocketed on June 11th whit the Europe strike revealing other people the existence of such app.

Free publicity, right? And when you think Uber featured Optimus Prime rides to make itself a name in the business...
