The World Superbike series gets no rest, and not because this championship is so intense and battles so fierce, but because Dorna, holder of the WSBK rights wants so.
Following the path we saw with MotoGP, all the new rules which affect the World Superbike series will be applied in a three-step process. After limiting the number of bikes down to one for 2013, we might get to see more drastic regulations limiting the number of parts which can be changed, the number of engines for the season and a more strict cost surveillance, according to CMG.
Dorna did a fairly good job until now, but we're not really sure too much restrictions are working in favor of the WSBK. Some new rules simply hide behind the “keeping the costs down” scarecrow, but the Superbike championship got here just because it grew into this more or less on its own accord.
And with the prospect of the new EVO class (will it replace the Superstock?) and minimum number of engine for sale or lease, we fear that Dorna is going a bit too deep into the WSBK. It's Dorna, the FIM and the manufacturers who can make Superbike even more awesome or transform it into a dull competition.
