Since the Mercedes-Benz C-Class W205 sedan has been revealed for almost two months now and its T-Modell (S205) variant is to be shown at next week's Geneva Motor Show, the next questions regarding this subject for 2014 are obviously revolving around the upcoming C 63 AMG.
Most importantly, the specifications of its engine are some of the most awaited details, with most recent reports insinuating that the C 63 AMG W205 will pretty much slaughter the BMW M3 F80's power figures (431 hp and 550 Nm – 406 lb ft of torque, ed).
According to the peeps at MB Passion - who sound pretty credible, albeit you may still want to take it all in with a pinch of salt - the next Mercedes-Benz C 63 AMG will develop 476 hp in the “base” version, while the S-Model variant will produce at least 510 hp and probably come with 4Matic all-wheel drive.
The 476 hp figure would therefore equal that of the E 55 AMG (W211) when it was launched back in 2003, and it would be somewhat inline with what Mercedes-AMG boss Tobias Moers had suggested in an interview a few months ago.
Powered by the all-new M177 engine, which - as some of you know - was created by bonding two M133 four-cylinder powerplants together, the new C 63 AMG should also be the torque monster in its segment.
We say this because the M177 is a four-liter V8 with a pair of twin-scroll turbochargers situated between the two cylinder lines, just like on the BMW S63 and the Audi 4.0 TFSI. This should allow it to have almost no turbo lag and weigh much less than a regular twin-turbocharged V8 of similar displacement.
MB Passion also suggests that the 4Matic all-wheel drive might come in standard on the 510 + hp S-Model variant, with the “normal” C 63 AMG to keep much of its tail-happiness and hooning potential that has made it famous over the last few years.
The model should be unveiled at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show in November, but until then we'll keep you posted if any other information details pop up.
