Mopar Muscle: 2015 Dodge Challenger Drag Pak Detailed

First there was the 2015 Dodge Challenger, then the mad engineers from the SRT skunkworks gave us the manic 707 horsepower Hellcat. But Mopar wanted a piece of the updated Challenger as well, so here's the 2015 model year Challenger Drag Pak variant.

What you can admire in the video and photo gallery below isn't a production version of the 2015 Dodge Challenger Drak Pak, but a sneak peak of a test vehicle previewed during NHRA's U.S. Nationals along with a '68 HEMI Dart pack. Still, who can't say no to that vintage white body and 15-inch wheels wrapped in 28-inch and 30-inch diameter Hossier drag rubber?

You know how the 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat can do the 1/4-mile run in just 10.8 secs if equipped with drag radials? Think of the Drag Pak as a turn key dragster for amateur racers. D'you hear that glorious V8 burble? A 426 cu.in. (7-liter) Race HEMI V8 tower-of-power is responsible for that aural bestiality. Previous incarnations of the Drag Pak include the V8 Dodge Challenger Drag Pak, V10 versions and 426 Race HEMI performance kits.

Coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the introduction of the Gen II 426 Race HEMI, the 2015 Dodge Challenger Drag Pak is mated to a heavy-duty 727 automatic transmission made by Chrysler, which is connected to a racing shift lever. Just like any proper drag racer, an integral line lock system is also on the menu. Sending that unspecified amount of hp and lb-ft to the rear wheels is an aluminum drive shaft.

Built specifically for preliminary evaluations and testing, the 2015 Dodge Challenger Drag Pak test vehicle you can see in action in the video below benefits from Mopar gauges, lightweight racing seats, five-point harnesses, a roll cage, latest-gen K-Member and strut suspension geometry, including front struts with adjustable compression and rebound.

At the rear you get a four-link suspension setup with Panhard bar, rear solid axle with 9-inch aluminum third member, rear shocks with adjustable compression and rebound, with the addition of an anti-sway bar. Well then, gentlemen, is this a case of 'Mopar or no car' or what?
