Bonhams will have under the hammer one of the two historic Vincent bikes which attempted a new 24 h world record back in 1952, at the Monthlery race track at the outskirts of Paris, France.
The goal was to ride this liter-class bike for 24 hours at speeds over 100 mph (160 km/h), with no less than 11 riders involved in this endeavor and only minor tuning on the machines themselves.

The 24h/100mph record was not broken that May, and it was a Velocette which did it in the end, but these two machines have played their unmistakeable role in the history of the two-wheeled sport, having established several other records, which seem close to impossible with today's factory-standard bikes.

So in case you feel like spending the big bucks on historic bikes which are still likely to shame present day machines, check with Bonhams and stay put for April 28.
