What should have been a fun event turned into a nightmare today at a local Dutch car show. The monster truck was driving over five parked cars as part of a demonstration, before suddenly steering into the watching crowd on the side. Emergency services immediately arrived, with dozens of ambulances to take the wounded to hospital. Even though the number of casualties is expected to rise, at least 15 people were injured, with five being seriously hurt.

The entire scene turned into chaos after the accident happened. According to NOS, German emergency services were also sent to the eastern Dutch city. The images can be experienced as shocking, especially that the crowd included families and young children.

It’s hard to tell what the driver was thinking of the moment he lost control of the huge truck, but as far as one can tell from the footage uploaded on YouTube the safety measures for the crowd seem pretty low.

In fact, having monster truck ramming into people in the crowd has happened before. One of the accidents that shocked the auto world last year was the Chihuahua, Mexico disaster, when a monster truck driver lost control of his vehicle and drove into a crowd of spectators. Nine people were killed and the 51-year old driver ended up charged with manslaughter.

Be advised, the images can be experienced as shocking.
