It looks more and more that the Yamaha MotoGP team will have both bikes riding with Monster Energy decals for the next season. Rumors are that after initially considering Monster as a sponsor for Valentino Rossi's bike and keeping the Rockstar Energy Drink on Jorge Lorenzo's machine, the green M company figured out that they'd look much better on both bikes and made Yamaha a new offer.
Spanish website Motocuatro delved a bit deeper in the whole story and unveils that Monster could indeed pay more than they already do for the ad space on Rossi's bike. And that's because Lorenzo has a personal contract with Rockstar. Lorenzo's annual deal with Rockstar brings him 1 million euro a year, and if Monster wants green M's on his bike, Yamaha must buy the Spaniard out, with Monster money, of course.
Even more, Motocuatro claims that Monster upped a bit the offer, just to make sure Yamaha is willing to go all the way and get rid of Rockstar: pumping 1.5 million euros in each bike and providing the extra million to cover for Lorenzo “freedom”.
We'll soon see if these rumors turn out to be true: the first week of January should bring news from Yamaha and if Lorenzo's cap has the green M on it, we'll know Motocuatro's assumptions were right.
