Nowadays, the Volkswagen Golf is the quintessential family car, the benchmark for all things 5-door in the European market. But when it was first launched 40 years ago, VW and the German auto industry didn't quite have the same reputation.
As of last year, we view the 300 hp Golf R as the fastest production VW ever made. But a race performance and tuning company from German has proven you can teach an old dog over three time as many new tricks, with a 1000 horsepower Golf Mk1.

This video was taken last week at Bitburg, Germany, where the Golf was running E85 ethanol and pulling killer quarter mile runs in the 8-second range. Using Racelogic tech, the mighty Golf clocked 100 km/h in 2.2 seconds, 100-200 km/h (62-124 mph) in 2.79 seconds and 0 to 280 km/h in 8.8 seconds.

Of course, humiliating supercars in a family hatch is not an easy thing to do. This thing is a pure dragster, equipped with a 4-speed dog box, all-wheel drive and a highly tuned 2-liter turbo engine pushing over 1,000 horsepower of highly volatile German power on 4.5 bars of boost.

Boba Motorsport has a number of similarly overpowered projects, including a Mk2 Golf with over 1,000 hp and a twin-clutch gearbox and an old Mitsubishi Colt which also crosses into four-digit levels of output.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
