Mom Leaves Child Inside Unlocked, Running Car to Do Shots at the Bar

Another strong contender for the Mother of the Year award emerges from Copperas Cove, Texas: 26-year-old Samantha Grace Vaughan went drinking in the middle of the night, leaving her child alone in the unlocked car, with the engine running.

The affidavit obtained by The Smoking Gun says Vaughan was charged with abandoning or endangering a child with intent to return, resisting arrest and making a terroristic threat against a public servant, following the incident last weekend. Her child, a 1-year-old girl, was not hurt.

Police responded to a call of a child left inside an empty vehicle at around 1 o’clock at night, the affidavit says. When they arrived at the parking lot outside a night club, they found a 2009 Buick Limited with the toddler asleep in her carseat. The engine was running and the doors were unlocked, so one of the officers went inside the nightclub to track down the mother.

She, Vaughn, came out to claim that she’d only stepped inside to pee. Because she reeked of booze, the cops pressed her on whether she’d been drinking and she eventually admitted to doing a couple of shots while inside: she told the officers she had come to the bar to fetch her husband, with whom she’d had the drinks.

When police eventually cuffed Vaughn, she started thrashing around, making terroristic threats and spewing racial insults. Inside the patrol car, she banged her head against a steel bar twice, which left a bloody gash on her forehead. It is visible in the booking photo attached to this article – which, we might as well point out, sees her smiling as if she’s about to get headshots for her next modeling gig.

A breathalyzer test administered later determined Vaughn had a blood alcohol level almost twice the legal .08 limit.
