These days, Mercedes-AMG models animated by four-cylinder engines are only normal, albeit with this sitting at the base of the range. But you should know there was a time when the four-pot models were the bread and butter of the fast Merc lineup. And what better representation of that era than the Mercedes-Benz 190 E 2.5-16 Evolution II?
Launched back in 1990, this super-sedan was a homologation special (think: DTM), with only 500 units being brought to the world - keep in mind that was a time when AMG was not even part of Mercedes-Benz.

Well, these days the world wide web seems to be hooked on bringing icons such as the Evo II up to contemporary design standards, so we can now talk about a rendering that does just that.

The said pixel play, which can be found in the social media post at the bottom of the page, gifts the E30 BMW M3 rival with styling elements borrowed from Merc-AMG models currently found in showrooms.

For instance, the rear valance appears to come from the E63, which, by the way, isn't the spiritual successor of the 90s hero, with that role going to the C63. Then we have the taillights, which are pretty close to what we find on the G63, out of all Mercedes-AMGs...

Note that the list of transplants also covers elements such as the wheels (this was was a bit of a prerequisite), the door handles and the exterior mirrors.

And since J.B. Cars, the pixel label behind the work, allows an easy comparison thanks to placing the modernized model next to the original in the image below. And this opens the door to an entertaining little game, so here we go: how quickly can you spot the elements of the performance saloon that have been removed, rather than going through a transformation?
