While the modern Chevrolet Blazer is undoubtedly a commercial success, the sporty crossover this iconic nameplate landed on can't cater to the needs of those seeking a GM-developed rival for the revived Bronco and the Wrangler. However, all we can do at this point is dream about such a truck-derived SUV. Well, the rendering sitting before us portrays just such a vehicle.
It's worth noting that previous rumors, which talked about General Motors filling in the said gap by bringing back the GMC Jimmy, which used to be based on the offroad-savvy Chevrolet Blazer decades ago, seem to have lost traction. For one, the revival of the Hummer brand, which will bring us an electric truck and SUV once the health crisis-caused delays are left behind, might show that the company has directed its resources towards this effort rather than playing the nostalgia card.

Well, the pixel effort we have here imagines a next-generation GMC SUV that would be smaller than the future Hummer utility vehicle, albeit packing the same appetite for rugged terrain and also relying on electric propulsion. The look of the rather compact offroader, which features a minimalist approach, also makes this suitable for the urban environment.

However, the devil is in the details with this one since there are plenty of elements that add practicality. For instance, the electric powertrain means that luggage can be stored at both ends of the vehicle, with the transparent "hood" showcasing a pair of tools sitting underneath it.

The two-seater layout of the vehicle means there's plenty of hauling space behind the B pillars, with the spare wheel accommodated in the hatch. By the way, with rear-view cameras installed, this won't bring any visibility issues, though the location of the wheel would affect the machine's center of gravity.

When it comes to the cabin, the design aims to minimize distractions while providing all the necessary assets for a trip out in the wild. Speaking of which, Ryan Schlotthauer, the artist behind the project, even envisioned a Lidar system that would create and project a map of the surrounding terrain for the driver. And, if the old-school badge doesn't float your boat, you should know the digital specialist proposed the Boulder name for the project.

We're talking about a transportation design student at the College For Creative Studies in Detroit, Michigan, who also completed an internship at Cadillac this summer, with this GMC being his project for the current semester.
