Remember the BMW designs before the early 2000s, the ones that didn't split opinions like the current models? Many expected that, once the Bangle era would fade away, things would get back to "normal", but, as the current super-sized kidney grille trend shows, this isn't the case (it looks like the upcoming 4 Series will follow the 7er and the X7 down this route). So what if the German automotive producer were to play the retro styling card for, say, a big coupe? The rendering sitting before us comes to answer that question.
Of course, we can't talk about a large coupe from the current BMW range without mentioning the second-generation 8 Series. However, while its design hasn't started fiery debates, the limited rear passenger accommodation is not easy to overlook.

As such, the pixel portrait sitting before us proposes a different path, one that would've seen BMW releasing the third generation of the 6er instead of bringing back the 8 Series.

And the retro styling nod is obvious, with the portrayed model basically being a modern incarnation of the E24 6 Series - built between 1976 and 1989 with a chassis switch in 1982 (from the E12 to the E28 5 Series), this Bimmer has remained in the hearts of many fans and not just thanks to overly muscular heroes such as the M635CSi.

Of course, the journey from this sketch to a production model would have to involve some serious toning down, but the idea of a clean, retro-inspired design remains worthy of our attention. For the record, the whole industry, not just BMW, is facing the challenge of having to come up with fresh designs after so many years of automotive evolution and not that many automakers get it right.

Now, one might wonder about the mind behind these pixels. Well, you should know we're dealing with the work of an independent artist named Andrey Gusev, who doesn't just love to dream about big coupes, since you can also find yacht renderings on his Instagram account.

Besides, now that BMW is commited to axing 50% of internal combustion powerplants after 2021 and focusing more on electrification, such a machine could always be a way of popularizing the genre.
