Model-Maker Creates Mesmerizing Real Life Scenes Using Diecast Classic Cars

Think of an innovative person that is so talented he’s able to recreate real life scenarios of America, from the 1920s to the mid 1960s, building the entire decor piece by piece to the exact detail. It’s a mid-century utopia created through an illusion its maker Michael Paul Smith calls Elgin Park. The imaginative town composed entirely of miniatures is enhanced with beautiful classic American cars scaled to 1/24.

Elgin Park is a virtual world that started from Smith’s passion for models. Although he has been accepting basically any jobs he could find, building up scale models of all kinds of buildings was the one thing Michael could not stop from. Not a job, but a passion, was what made him build this incredibly realistic pictures that rather look like improved photographs of real cities taken in the past, than an actual scale model recreation.

The imaginative town is made entirely of miniatures Smith spends months building. He constructs much of what is barely visible in the photos: shoeboxes, furniture, stage lights, a lawnmower and machines in the laundromat. Everything is carefully manufactured, except from the cars, which are 1/24th-scale diecast models he has been collecting for years.

To make things as realistic as possible, Michael often takes the photographs outdoors against natural backgrounds in the artist’s neighborhood, yet the entire scenario remains a thing of his own imagination. It was supposed to be a creative hobby, but Elgin Park managed to make it that popular it created an entire community online. So much did people love Smith’s work that his Flickr account attracted over 76 million views.

This is also the reason he has decided to take all his work and many other projects and put them together in a book which is currently available on presale online. Whether you’re a nostalgic, a diecast enthusiast or simply love cars, we’d strongly recommand you to at least watch the video below. We believe it’s worth your time.
