Modded Ford Mustang GT Races Nissan GT-R, Obliteration Follows

The previous S197 incarnation of the Ford Mustang GT and the R35 Nissan GT-R have more in common than it might appear. For example, they were both born in the late 2000s, even though the Japanese machine continues to soldier on while the pony has received a new generation meanwhile and might get a next one late next year.

As such, when these two 2+2 coupes recently got together as part of a spicy racing night, it all felt like seeing two old friends preparing to put on a show while finding out who can reach the horizon quicker.

Both the muscle car and the supercar slayer had been gifted with reasonable mods, but the AWD advantage of the GT-R was just one reason why the battle used a rolling start. And while we're on this topic, please keep in mind not to use such street brawls as an example and hit the drag strip when you're feeling competitive.

Now, as shown in the piece of footage at the bottom of the page, which comes from YouTuber Can I Be Frank, Godzilla's rear axle features a small wheel conversion, which means the meatier sidewalls of the tires can deliver a better launch.

And while we're not aware of all the custom goodies fitted to the twin-turbo 3.8-liter V6 of the Nissan, we're being told the unit now features upgraded turbos. As such, the engine delivers 750 hp at the wheels, which makes for over 850 horses at the crankshaft.

The 5.0-liter Coyote of the Mustang didn't face the challenge on its own since the motor now works with a Whipple supercharger. And, if we are to believe the numbers dropped in the comments section of the clip, the forced induction allows the V8 to produce 730 whp or well above 800 ponies at the crank.

However, while the GT-R features a dual-clutch tranny, the Mustang GT driver has to work the clutch during the battle. And with the Mustang serving as the camera car for this clip, the blower whine is on the house.
