We all know the path: you buy a fast car, build it, and then set out to race into the open-world RPG that is... real life. That said, you can never be entirely sure of how a velocity battle goes, no matter what the appearances tell you. That's the case with the straight-line race we have here, which involves a seriously modded Viper and a stock/not stock C7 Corvette ZR1. Wait, what?
After gifting the V10 heart of his Viper with plenty of custom goodies (more on this below) and racing tons of opponents, Sneaky Snakes, the YouTuber who owns the beast, recently came across a white C7 ZR1 while driving down the highway.
The enthusiast behind the wheel of the 'Vette claimed his machine came to the fight in factory form (think 755 hp from the supercharged 6.2-liter V8). However, watching the two slabs of America duking it out in the clip below might make you wonder it that's true - could the LT5 motor of the Chevy pack a little tune or perhaps some other mods?
The Viper driver believes the Chevy guy could steer clear of using the full potential of his vehicle, possibly with the aim of luring the YouTuber into a future race where he would get crushed.
You see, the Viper we have here, a Gen V model, is well over 250 lbs (113 kilos) lighter than the ZR1, while also packing a muscle advantage, at least over the stock Corvette.
The V10 under the hood has been gifted with a 550-ci (9.01-liter) billet stroker package, ported heads, a custom cam setup, crankshaft pulley, and a monstrous exhaust. The latter features long tube headers in decatted form with a 3-inch catback system.
Having been tuned on 93-octane pump gas while still using the stock compression ratio of 10.5:1, the engine now delivers up to 722 ponies at the wheels (800+ crank horsepower).
The ZTK aero package of the Corvette ZR1, with that massive rear wing, certainly doesn't help during such races. We need to mention the gearbox advantage of the Chevrolet, as it seems this ZR1 comes with the eight-speed auto, not the seven-speed manual; you can clearly see the Viper losing ground each time the driver has to shift.
Now, following two failed attempts to line up (please don't use such street fights as an example and visit the drag strip instead), the Viper and the Corvette ZR1 finally engaged in a proper battle, as you can see at the 0:45 point of the clip below.
