A drag race between an old Chevrolet Silverado and a Nissan GT-R might not strike one as a balanced adventure, but, with some aftermarket spice, the brawl we have here became just such a thing.
The current R35-generation Nissan GT-R started out in life as David doing battle with Goliath-style supercars for a fraction of the costs. However, things have changed meanwhile, from the dramatic performance and pricing boost of the factory models to the fact the Japanese machine has become one of the most successful drag racing platforms.

And while the Godzilla we have here doesn't seem to have been massaged (at least judging by its 1/2-mile numbers), the conclusion mentioned above still stands.

As for its opponent, we're dealing with a first-generation Chevrolet Silverado, probably an SS, which has already covered some 300,000 miles (480,000 km). However, the factory tech setup has been left far behind, with the single cab beast now sporting an LS3 and a manual.

With the help of an LSA blower and other goodies, the 6.2-liter V8 now delivers up to 700 horsepower at the rear wheels (over 800 ponies at the crank), while working with a Tremec T56 manual and a twin-disc clutch. Why use a stick shift, you ask? To quote the young gearhead behind the wheel (pun intended) who used to daily drive the machine until a while ago: because it's fun!

Now, the racing addicts over at 1320video came across the Silverado during last summer's Rocky Mountain Speed Week, an annual event that sees competitors duke it out on tracks on each of its seven days while driving well over 1,000 miles (1,600 km) between locations.

Then again, with the Chevy still packing the full interior, as well as AC, the driver could easily cope with the hot weather.

And while the beginning of the clip below tells the story of how the pickup truck recovered after a transmission explosion, the race against the Nissan GT-R awaits you at the other end of the video (16:45 timestamp).

We're looking at a three-round battle, and with this being a 1/2-mile brawl, the maximum velocity determined the winner . So, while crossing the finish line first wasn't all that important, the gap mentioned in the title, which can be seen during the second run, still gave spectators the giggles.

In between the two bits of the clip, you'll find some delicious 1/4-mile runs of the Silverado, which, by the way, can complete the task in as little as 10.8 seconds.

Update: Yes, the Chevrolet's adventure is a RWD shenanigan, with the beadlock rear wheels holding the slicks in place for those clutch-challenging launches.
