In the advertising business people say any publicity is good publicity. The French are even more plain about it as they call it “succes de scandale” which stands for success from scandal. That is pretty much what happened with all the spoofs comedians did over Mathew McCounaughey’s Lincoln ad recently. Ford’s premium brand reported its sales last month were up by 25 percent, as the model sold best was the MKC crossover.
Not that Matthew McConaughey’s interpretation of the Lincoln driving wasn’t good enough, but everybody agreed there were some rather fun parts in his acting. If it wasn’t his specific accent, nor his gestures, then it was definitely about the fact that the Oscar winner decided to take a detour and do advertorials.

And by all means, everybody got quite a good laugh at McConaughey’s expense thanks to Jim Carrey, Ellen DeGeneres, Conan and even South Park. But all the spoofs were innocent jokes meant to entertain and Lincoln obviously didn’t mind at all. In fact, it turns out it helped a lot, as the MKC turned out to be the model sold best last month.

Did they do it on purpose?

Now, you can call as conspiracy theory believers, but couldn’t this whole Lincoln adventure turn out to be a thing they did on purpose? After all, Lincoln signed a multiyear contract with the Oscar-winning actor to star in a series of spots promoting the 2015 MKC, so a lot of future advertorials will follow the current ads.

Whatever the case might be, we can’t say Lincoln’s new model is not a good compact premium crossover worth all the glory so we wish them good luck.
