Mobius Motors was founded in 2010 by Joel Jackson, a management consultant who was working for an NGO in Mombasa at that time. The company saw the need for a vehicle that was suitable for Africa’s roads, and that would adapt to the rugged conditions of the old continent.
The whole project started with a small team of volunteers and advisers in order to build the Mobius One prototype from off-the-shelf components. Mobius One has received a 2 liter Toyota engine. The prototype was also fitted with a racing-type roll-cage in case of unfortunate events. Also, the cars body was made from aluminum sheeting and based on a tubular construction.
It was equipped with heavy duty suspension, since One of its main objective is to serve in transporting supplies for remote areas.The Mobius One has been put trough its paces. Seeing the endurance of the nimble car, the team started the pencilling of the Mobius 2. The engineering team behind the project decided to reduce the engine capacity to 1 liter and more aluminum was replaced with canvas sheeting.
Also Mobius Motors hopes that in a near future the company will be able to import engines and key components directly from manufacturers lowering the production costs this way. The company’s founder Joel Jackson hopes to create a vehicle that would not only serve as a supplies transporter for remote areas across Africa but also to be the starting point for entrepreneurship on the old continent.
