Mitsubishi has just announced technical details of their new 1.8-liter gasoline engine, the 4J10 that uses the automaker’s MIVEC variable valve timing system in combination with Auto Stop & Go (AS&G) to provide a combination of 139 hp and the promise of improved economy.
The automaker has stated that it has seen a 12 percent improvement in fuel efficiency for a number of vehicles which it has tested.
The 1.8 MIVEC will debut this month in Japan on the RVR (JDM ASX or Outlander Sport) Galant Fortis sedan and Sportback (that’s a Lancer to you and me). The international model will also make use of the engine.
We can’t know for sure if these figures will be kept for the US and European markets, but in Japan, the new 1.8-liter produces 139 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 172Nm (126.9 lb-ft) at 4,200 rpm.
