Japanese automaker Mitsubishi will race two all-new MiEV Evolution II all-electric four-wheel drive prototype vehicles in this year’s Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.
Based off last year’s second-placed MiEV entrant, the Evolution II has been enhanced with new high-capacity battery and high-output motors specially designed by the company’s suppliers. Also, the new vehicles gained a high-tech Super All-Wheel Control system, which, according to Mitsubishi, has increased both handling and control.
Lighter than its predecessor, the newly designed body provides improved aerodynamics as well. Other features include a redesigned ABS, Active Yaw Control and an improved lower center of gravity due to a new lithium-ion battery placement.
The Evolution II vehicles will be driven by Hiroshi Masuoka and Greg Tracy, the latter being a six time Pikes Peak overall motorcycle champion. "I'm excited to compete here with the MiEV Evolution II. I will do my best, along with my teammates, to make an electric vehicle the champ for the first time ever," said Tracy.
The 2013 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb is scheduled to take place on June 30, in Colorado.
