The Mitsubishi i-MiEV is one of the obvious choice for those who want a relatively affordable all-electric vehicle for town use (though, it can be taken around the world successfully, it seems). However, if you have bought your i-MiEV in Canada, you may need to visit the dealer, as 49 cars have been diagnosed with a safety software issue.
According to a press release by Transport Canada, the culprit is the sensor array, which is controlled by the software for the Safety Restraint System (SRS), which in turn makes the associated dashboard light turn on. Usually, when this (or a similar) light is on, it usually means that none of the airbags work (or if they do, they will not deploy properly), and the owner needs to sort out the problem fast.
Mitsubishi dealers in Canada will sort out the problem for free, and they are advising all owners to visit bring the car in if they have encountered the problem - safety is important!
