Mitsubishi Mirage to Make US Debut at 2013 NYIAS

Mitsuibishi has recently confirmed that it will continue to sell vehicles in the US, responding to speculation that appeared after Suzuki announced it would pull off the American market. The speculation was also fueled by Mitsubishi’s poor sales in the US, so it was only natural that people believed it could follows Suzuki’s example.

The problem that keep Mitsubishi’s US sales at a disappointing level is the fact that the carmaker’s range is aging and now it seems that the company will make a first step towards fixing this by bringing the Mirage to America.

Mitsubishi North America President Yoichi Yokozawa used the Los Angeles International Auto Show to confirm that the Mirage will make its US debut at the 2013 New York Auto Show, adding that the car will hit the market in September 2013.

The US-bound vehicle might not use the Mirage designation, but it will be launched with a petrol engine, not necessarily the 76 hp three-cylinder unit used in other parts of the world.

Mitsubishi is expected to change more than the name of the car for US customers, despite the fact that it hasn’t shown a particular interest for doing that with its past vehicles. However, the ultra-compact dimensions of the Mirage aren’t exactly an asset in the US, which is why we think the carmaker will upgrade it.
