Production of the Mitsubishi Mirage has started almost two weeks ago at the company’s Mitsubishi Motors Thailand’s (MMTh) Laem Chabang plant. This new facility has been designed for the global market, and could serve as a replacement for the Colt.
Today, Mitsubishi has revealed the rollout plan for the all-new Mirage, which reveals the car will arrive in Europe in the third quarter of the 2012 fiscal year., followed in the next qurter by North America.
But North America actually only means Canada, because Mitsubishi spokesperson Roger Yasukawa told Autonews that the subcompact is still under consideration for the US.
One of the reasons is that the small Japanese automaker needs the marketing budget for the new 2013 Outlander SUV, the other being tight profits in the subcompact segment.
"There are competitors out there that are still new and most of them have just launched or are coming out soon," said Yasukawa. "It's still a young segment that's growing in the U.S., and we have to account for that in our decision."
