Mitsubishi Launches New eK Lineup in Japan

Japanese automaker Mitsubishi has launched its new eK lineup. Designed in cooperation with Nissan, based on a partnership signed by the two companies back in 2010, the new kei car is available on the Japanese market only.

Offered in two versions, Wagon and Custom, the eK is just 3.395 mm (133.7 inches) long and moves around thanks to its 0.7-liter three-cylinder gasoline engine that can be had with either 49 HP or 59 HP (turbocharged). CVT is the only transmission available, but the eK can be ordered with either front or all-wheel drive.

Equipped with the company’s Auto Stop & Go system, the eK ’s fuel consumption is rated at a cool 29.2 km/l (3.4 l/100 km, 68.7 mpg US). If you’re living in Japan and looking to buy one, the eK Wagon is priced from ¥1,050,000 to ¥1,335,000 ($10,600 - $13,500), while the eK Custom starts at ¥1,269,000 and can go as high as ¥1,546,000 ($12,800 - $15,600).

As we already told you back in March, the same cars will be sold by Nissan as well. The ek Wagon will become Nissan Dayz, while the ek Custom will hit the showrooms with the Nissan Dayz Highway Star badge. A new jointly-developed car, this time a bigger wagon, is expected to arrive next year.
