Mitsubishi iMiEV Cargo, World Premiere in Tokyo

Japanese car manufacturers flock these days to give us a preview of what they will present at this year's edition of the Tokyo Motor Show, not as much because the event takes place in their home country, but mostly because, sadly, they will be basically alone at the show.

The latest manufacturer to announce its line-up at the event is Mitsubishi. The company will showcase, as do all others attending, its current line-up, as well as a few vehicles pointing to the future.

One of them is the iMiEV Cargo, a weird combination between the round, childish front end of the iMiEV (Mitsubishi innovative Electric Vehicle) and an oversized, square box at the rear (Mitsubishi says it gives the iMiEV "distinctive road presence"). With the addition of the unaesthetic hump,
the small iMiEV is now 1.86 m high (6.1 feet)...That's more than the Japanese male's average height of 1.71 m (5.7 feet)...

The Cargo is powered by iMiEVs permanent magnet synchronous motor, outputting 47 kW and 180 Nm of torque. Its has a maximum range of 160 km.

"The rear space features space-efficient cubic dimensions to allow the user to exercise their imagination fully in adapting it for whatever use he/she chooses. The result is a concept for an EV that meets user needs for a variety of situations: from business use, where maximum payload
space is required, to leisure and other individual owner uses,
" Mitsubishi says about the Cargo.

The Japanese manufacturer will also showcase alongside the Cargo the crossover version of the iMiEV, dubbed the PX-MiEV.
