Mitsubishi i-MiEV Awarded Best City EV for the Future

Following its participation at the Start Eco Car Spectacular event the past weekend, Mitsubishi’s i-MiEV has received the 'Best City Electric Vehicle for the Future' Award. The trophy, made from old car parts, was specially designed by Mulberry founder Roger Saul and Grand Designs’ presenter Kevin McCloud.

The award was presented by Sir Stirling Moss, who drove the i-MiEV on The Mall in front of Buckingham Palace.

“The i-MiEV is great fun. It’s the most practical electric car currently available, with plenty of room for four adults, impressive acceleration and minimal running costs. It’s a fantastic car for driving in towns and cities," said Sir Stirling Moss after driving the car.

"We are delighted to receive the 'Best City Electric Vehicle for the Future' award. The Start Eco Car Spectacular was a great event that has helped raise awareness of zero emissions vehicles like the i-MiEV. We were also thrilled to welcome Sir Stirling Moss. It might not quite compare with winning the Mille Miglia, but hopefully he enjoyed driving our electric car up The Mall,” stated Mitsubishi Motors Managing Director Lance Bradley.

While the UK Government introduced a consumer incentive of GBP5,000, the British division of Mitsubishi announced late last month it has reduced pricing for the i-MiEV to GBP28,990 for orders placed for delivery from January 1, 2011. This means consumers will only have to pay GBP23,990 for the electric vehicle.

The European-spec version of the i-MiEV will premiere at the upcoming Paris Auto Show this month, with the model to be rolled out in December in 14 European countries, including France, the United Kingdom and Germany.
