The federal crash test results for the Mitsubishi i have arrived and everybody wants to know how the vehicle did compared to its green competitors, the Nissan Leaf and the Chevy Volt.
According to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the 2013 Mitsubishi i received a ranking of four out of five stars, which places it under the Leaf and the Volt, which both earned five-star safety ratings.

To be more specific, the electric Mitsubishi got four out of five stars in the frontal impact test, three out of five stars in the side-impact crash test and four out of five stars in the rollover category. The NHTSA also explains that an interior door panel hit the rear-sear dummy in the torso area during the side impact test, which suggests an increased risk of lower back injury.
