Mitsubishi August Sales, Up 41 Percent

The Japanese manufacturer announced today that August 2009 was its highest monthly total sales since October 2008 and a 41 percent increase from July 2009. With overall sales of 6,813 units, Mitsubishi Motors North America admits that Cash for Clunkers also had a positive impact on its sales performances.

"The CARS program lifted the spirits of the automobile industry by attracting to the showroom buyers who purchased cleaner-running, fuel efficient vehicles like the Lancer, Galant and Outlander," said Shinichi Kurihara, president and CEO of Mitsubishi Motors North America.

"August was our fifth consecutive month of increased sales and we are working diligently to maintain this sales growth in the months ahead,"
Kurihara added.

Separately, Mitsubishi Lancer sales were up 37.5 percent compared to the prior month (July, 2009), while August 2009 was Lancer's best sales month since August 2008. Mitsubishi Endeavor sales recorded the same increase as the Lancer compared to the prior month, while the Galant was only up 34.1 percent, with August as its best sales month since January.

The Mitsubishi Outlander sales however were the ones that amazed us, as the model recorded sales of up to 91.8 percent compared to the last month period. Moreover, August 2009 was Outlander's best sales month in two years.

Kurihara also mentioned that its further growth is being strengthen by the new Lancer Sportback, which is currently arriving in dealerships. "The Lancer Sportback provides active lifestyle consumers with a versatile new option for sportiness, performance and spaciousness," he said.
