We recently stumbled upon a well cared after 1989 BMW Z1 Roadster which is on sale, as featured on Classic Driver auction website.
The open top two-seater Z1 roadster entered production in March 1989, being manufactured until June 1991, with a total of 8,000 units made. The car was built on a special designed chassis that had some innovative features like removable body panels, continuously zinc welded seams, composite undertray and the unusual “dropping” doors.

Well... not literally dropping doors, they were small and thus, they would open by sliding into the car’s side sills, which were quite big. The rest of the body parts were made from plastic and they were simply bolted to the monocoque frame, which offered high torsional rigidity due to the tall side sills.

The BMW Z1 Roadster advertised on the website was made in 1989, having only one owner that clocked about 123,500 km (76,740 miles) in it. The car received good care over time and it looks quite good after so many kilometers. Its engine was upgraded by famous BMW tuner Lorenz, now developing 214 hp instead of original 170 hp. The car is awaiting its owner in Bernau, Germany, having a €29,500 ($38,530) price tag.
