MINI vs. Monster Slow Motion 3D Film Unveiled

A new ad created by advertising agency BSUR has recently been launched by the British car brand, offering viewers the world’s first slow-motion 3D movie. Dubbed MINI vs. Monster, the two-minute film offers the chance to see a battle between MINI and a five-tonne monster truck.

The action is set at night in a floodlit stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada, where a crowd of electric monster truck fans are silenced when the 1,800-horsepower truck jumps over the whole MINI family of cars.

The truck's tires skim close to the roofs of the four-vehicle line-up of consisting of the MINI Cooper Convertible, MINI Cooper Clubman, MINI Cooper S and MINI Cooper S Countryman, with the crowd cheering, but not revealing whether the it will be able to complete its trajectory.

The team behind the film comprised 20 people, including one stunt driver, six 3D technologists and scientists who calculated the truck's chances, before filming with a 3D rig.

"This new 3D technology makes you really feel like you are in the crowd and are part of the jump. You experience every detail, it's better than being in the stands. 3D is the future of a new wave of immersive advertising which puts viewers at the heart of the action, which this film certainly does," Jason Schragger, executive creative director, said in a statement for the press.

The monster truck driver and veteran stunt man Russell Steeley thought he broke his back the first time he jumped. Steeley spent six months recuperating and then got back in the truck. "I landed so hard, it knocked the wind out of me," he said. "I sat after that to let my back heal."
