Unfortunately for MINI, the sales recorded in January weren’t exactly what they were expecting. Blame it on the polar vortex and the record-breaking temperatures or whatever you want, the sales dropped nearly 31 percent over the last month.
To be more exact, just 2,543 MINI automobiles were sold, compared to the 3,682 units sold over the same period of 2013, adding up to a drop of exactly 30.9 percent.

However, a couple of key factors have to be kept in mind. The brand is currently in a transitional phase, with the introduction of the new model on the US market and that is the best selling model they have.

Either way, BMW USA’s CEO, Ludwig Willisch is confident that sales will be picking up later on, as the BMW collaboration with Team USA and the Sochi Olympics kick in.

“Coming right after an historic December, the January numbers are a momentum jump-start for 2014; a pace we expect to accelerate as the partnership between BMW and Team USA hits the air this weekend at the Sochi Olympics,” said Ludwig Willisch

“During the Olympics, viewers will get a sense of the full breadth of the BMW model range with focus on the new X5, the 2 Series, the i3 and the i8 especially,” he added.
