MINI Unveils Their First Surfboard Designed for Channel Islands Team

Since Summer is just around the corner, carmakers have already constructed their marketing strategies. Some are looking for the outwear collections; others are working their way up into the accessories world. MINI is on the cool side of the season, so they figured partnering up with a professional surfer to create the best board is a good idea.

MINI and the California Channel Islands surfboard manufacturer have just announced their first board specially designed for this summer. BMW claims the new product combines the enthusiasm for an unconventional and unique lifestyle, which is what their hatchback allegedly stands for.

Somehow, the surfboard is supposed to “bring the unique driving experience of the MINI on the water. How? Well it’s just a metaphor, we’re not truly going to see a MINI turned into an amphibious car.

To design and develop the 750 euros worth summer toy, Christopher Weil, head of exterior design MINI, and professional surfer Kalani Robb have partnered up. “To create this agile and fast feeling we have developed a board with a bit more volume. The outline and low rocker make the board surf fast,” Kalani explained.

The first MINI ever designed, the surfboard is available in both Chili Red or Black Rally Stripes, thus borrowing some nuances from the Channel Islands team. Now, you don’t have to be a MINI driver like Kalani Robb actually to surf their board. In fact, you just need to save up $811 until June, when the surfboard will be available in selected locations and in the Channel Islands Online store.
