MINI United – MINI Mayfair and MINI Camden

The past weekend witnessed one of the most awaited events in the automotive calendar for this year, in the UK at least. Between May 22 and 24, the Silverstone track was host of the third edition of the MINI United Festival. This year edition was even more special thanks to the fact that 2009 is the 50th year of existence of the brand.

The event was swamped by a crowd of about 25,000 people, which arrived at the event in no less than 10,000 MINIs, according to data provided by BMW. The company says the event attracted people from all over the world, including Russia, the US and South Africa.

To rise up to the occasion, the manufacturer released two anniversary MINIs, called Mayfair and Camden. Both of them are available in three engine configurations, two petrol engines and one diesel.

Performance wise, the direct gasoline injection powering the MINI Cooper S 50 Mayfair and the MINI Cooper S 50 Camden develops 175 horsepower, with fuel consumption ratings standing at 6.2l/100 km (37.9 mpg) and CO2 emissions at 149g/km.

The second gasoline engine, featured on the MINI Cooper 50 Mayfair and the MINI Cooper 50 Camden, develops 120 horsepower and eats up 5.4l of fuel every 100 km - 43.5 mpg - (CO2 emissions stand at 129g/km).

The four-cylinder diesel engine, featured on the MINI Cooper D 50 Mayfair and the MINI Cooper D 50 Camden, developing 110 horsepower, is the most fuel efficient of them all. It uses 3.9l of fuel to travel 100 km and emits only 104g of CO2 into the atmosphere.

To set the two models apart from the regular series versions, the MINIs comes with special body paintwork, light-alloy rims tailored to the car, special materials and surfaces within the interior as well as a range of colors available specifically for the MINI 50 Mayfair the MINI 50 Camden.

The manufacturer says the two new models, will be available for purchase sometimes in September, but hasn't disclosed any prices yet for the anniversary versions.
