MINI To Race Private Porsche (But Not Hyundai) on Own Road Atlanta Track

MINI Porsche Road Atlanta race courseMINI invited the public to get behind the wheel of the 911S
As we should be hours away from the MINI “Rumble on the Racetrack”, we would like to bring further details about the event.First of all, the race between MINI and Porsche will take place, even though the maker of the 911 has refused to take part in it. This is because MINI has predictably decided to bring a private 911S & driver to the track.

The British brand made the challenge public, announcing on Facebook that it is looking for a driver who would get behind the wheel of his 911 and face MINI on the track. The city-car producer even offered to provide a 911 should the bold driver be short of one.

Subsequent to MINI’s move, a Korean challenger decided to officially join the game, Hyundai announced that it would be more than happy to substitute Porsche, bringing the Genesis Coupe together with professional drifter Rhys Miller to Road Atlanta to race MINI in July. However, the carmaker didn’t mention if it plans to use the 210 2.0 liter turbocharged or the 306 V6 version of the Genesis to tackle the corners.

And speaking of Road Atlanta corners, we must mention that MINI is trying to use an ace that is bigger than its sleeve for the race. As we reported, MINI made the details of the race anything but clear. That it because it was planing to bring its own version of the Road Atlanta race track. The company finally decided to release the layout of the course, allowing us to see that it plans to hold the race using a autocross-skidpad layout instead of the famous 2.54 mile course that made the track famous. You can check out the details in the image, together with MINI’s claims, which include statements like “NO TRICKS, NO GIMMICKS, NO JOKES”.

Ok, so the track may be more or less fair for the rear wheel drive, rear-engined 911 S, but it certainly doesn't have a layout that should scare the German Coupe.

We have a little piece of advice for MINI: you can play with a private Porsche today, but stop ignoring Hyundai’s challenge!
